Nicola McGonagle, Centre Manager with Business Environment at their Westbourne Grove centre, completed the Virgin London Marathon with a severe injury sustained at mile 11. Finishing in The Mall in just under 8 hours, Nicola had to stop at every medical station for help on her way to the finish line.

Nicola fell just before the halfway stage as she approached Tower Bridge. After receiving help, she set off to try and complete the race.  Reaching The Mall, Nicola made a huge effort to complete the last stage of the race, crossing the line in 7 hours and 50 minutes to collect her medal.

Nicola commented, “Let’s just say I had a rough time, however I completed the 2012 London Marathon and collected my medal after I hobbled across the finish line – I have never felt pain like it!!!  Looking back it was an amazing day and I achieved what I set out to do; which was to complete the 26.2 miles and raise lots of money that will grant wishes for the Rays of Sunshine children”.

Nicola is seeking support to hit her target of £3,000 supporting Rays of Sunshine who grant wishes to terminally ill children. For more information about Rays of Sunshine and their important work visit: https://www.raysofsunshine.org.uk/

David Saul, Managing Director at Business Environment said, “We support all our employees with their commitments to charity work, so we were delighted to learn Nicola had managed to complete her dream of running the London Marathon despite a serious injury”.
