Businesses have finally started to realise the huge potential of social media use in the office space.

As a networking tool and marketing platform, social media is really starting to mature and many business owners allow wholesale use of the technology amongst staff – particularly firms in the IT sector.

But, according to recruitment specialist Beyond Interactive, many businesses are not using office space social media tools to the full and still misunderstand what differentiates social media from traditional communication technologies – like email.

James Swift, director and founder of Beyond Interactive, said office space recruitment can now revolve around social networks.

“A lot of companies seem to think that just being on Twitter and posting jobs is a social media strategy, as opposed to actually getting involved in two-way dialogue and speaking to candidates,” Mr Swift said.

His comments come after research from recruiter Robert Half showed that almost half of financial services job candidates look on social networks for new roles.
