New research has shown that workers in the UK who are slaving away in office space in London and the rest of the UK are some of the unhappiest staff in the world.

British employees scored lower than contemporaries in most other parts of the world in terms of happiness at work, job satisfaction and loyalty, in the Lumesse Inspiring Talent survey, HR Magazine reported.

Americans were found to be the most upbeat about their workplace, the French were found to be the most loyal, and the Scandinavians the happiest, the survey showed.

More than 4,000 employees from across the world were questioned in the survey, which also found variations in age and gender, with young people and older employees reporting the most job satisfaction across the board.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development found at the end of last year that job satisfaction was on the rise among UK employees, with 42 per cent reporting they were satisfied, compared to 35 per cent previously.
