Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time and politicians across Europe are steadfastly trying to reduce their countries’ carbon footprints to meet new emissions targets set by the EU.

As a result new carbon emissions targets are set to filter down to British businesses.

But, will this boost demand for environmentally-friendly serviced offices?

Low carbon office space is already becoming extremely popular in Australia and the trend could soon catch on over here as the rising cost of energy becomes a core business concern.

Down Under, the Ecotect Architects company has been creating a range of eco-friendly serviced office spaces that guarantee to cut firms’ carbon footprints.

“Being designed for energy efficiency, the utility costs at [eco-friendly service office facilities] are much lower than normal, the air is fresher, and the ambience is light, bright and quiet,” the firm claims.

It adds that the cost advantages are also significant.

Richard Kauntze, chief executive of the British Council for Offices, believes that UK office spaces are getting more eco-friendly.
