Offices spaces certainly have their uses it seems as 81 per cent of people who work from home spend some of their personal time doing extra work at weekends or in the evenings.

The survey conducted by SMEDiscounts also found that 56 per cent of the 1,000 home workers they surveyed experienced difficulties in separating their home and working lives.

One solution to this problem would be to split their working lives 50-50 between the office and home, allowing more flexibility.

Despite this, 85 per cent disagreed that working from home was less than productive than going into the office.

Since so many home workers put in extra hours it is not surprising that only one-in-four felt guilty when they took a break to do household chores during the working day.

Andries Smit, founder of SMEDiscounts, said: “Many people who work from home are self employed, and so in that sense it’s not surprising they find themselves putting in extra hours.”
