Those who work in office space in London may be in an enviable position as the latest Happiness at Work Index shows that London has above average levels of happiness.

The index, which is published by Badenoch and Clark, suggests that only a third of UK employees are happy in their jobs with a quarter with a quarter reporting to be distinctly unhappy.

With job losses across most sectors and pay rises and promotions rare it is perhaps not surprising, though worrying, that morale has been slowly decreasing this year.

Earlier this year the Foresight Programme study on mental capital and wellbeing found £26 billion a year was being lost through sickness absent, presenteeism, when an employee is there in body only, and labour turn over.

Nicola Linkleter, managing director of Badenoch & Clark, said: “Organisations must now take action to create a working environment where employees are able to develop a sense that their work is both valuable and valued.”
