Making sure office spaces are diverse places to work is vitally important for modern businesses.

But diversity is not solely about gender equality and representing minority groups.

According to Rachel Krys, director of Inclusive Employers, making sure that office spaces have a mixture of young, fresh-faced workers and more experienced old-hands is a must.

She said that older staff can have “a real settling, calming effect on the whole workforce”.

However, she said that striking the perfect balance between young and old in the office space was no easy task.

Ms Krys said: “You [also] need people with new thoughts.”

“People who haven’t done it before are not restricted by past failures; people who haven’t failed before are much more willing to take a risk.”

The government is hoping to tackle youth unemployment by investing £7.6 billion in education and training, and is also planning on increasing the default retirement age.
