Business meetings are slowing down the momentum in the output of work by getting in the way of an employees’ workload, according to an expert.

Al Pittampalli, author of Read This Before Our Next Meeting, said they are so problematic that they have become a “delaying factor” within an organisation.

He also suggested that many employees feel frustrated with meetings.

Mr Pittampalli said: “The reason why people are really frustrated by meetings is because meetings get in the way. Meetings get in the way of your project getting fulfilled. Meetings get in the way of the approval you need to take some type of action inside if your organisation and do something that matters.”

He added: “Deep down, what people want desperately inside of organisations is simple: they want to make a difference.”

His book, Read This Before Our Next Meeting, addresses the dangers of the “current meeting system”.

It seeks to teach readers how to reinvent the meeting to enable growth and make better decisions.

Mr Pittampalli has described himself as a “meeting culture warrior”.
