Four-fifths of employees believe that experience is more important than education in driving a person’s career forward, according to new research.

The Evolving Workforce: Drivers of Career Choice and Career Progression report from Kelly Services revealed that 80 per cent of respondents valued experience over education.

This was in comparison to only 18 per cent who believed that education was the main driving force to moving up the ladder.

The report was also revealing to find that 57 per cent of the 97,000 respondents who were interviewed for the report no longer believed that a career was for life, with many stating that it would be highly likely for them to switch jobs within the next five years.

The main reasons cited for change were more money, followed by an improved work-life balance, changing personal interests and concern that their respective industries were in decline.
