Flexibility is key to the perfect office space

Business owners need to make sure that any office space they consider moving into is highly adaptable.

According to the British Council for Offices (BCO), flexibility is an undervalued asset of many top-quality office spaces and can be a saving grace if business goals change in the medium to long term.

Richard Kauntze, chief executive officer of the BCO, said: “Business requirements can change very quickly and space requirements need to reflect that.

“Generally, the floor space and the way the office is configured needs to be simple and adaptable so that the space can be chopped and changed quite easily.”

Mr Kauntze also urged large business owners to consider the importance of sub-letting clauses, as parts of larger operations are often budded off and companies can end up with more space than they need.

Flexible working practices are also likely to impact upon office space users themselves, making adaptability even more vital.
