But on some occasions, certain individuals take things a little too far, as the Associated Press reported this week.
German police pulled over a driver who had set up an entire mobile office – complete with a range of connected IT solutions – in his own car.
The 35-year-old was caught driving over the speed limit – an offence which meant he received a €120 fine.
Built on a wooden frame on his passenger seat they found a laptop on a docking station, tilted for easy driver access.
Alongside the computer they discovered a printer, router, wireless internet stick, WLAN antenna, and inverter to power it all.
The car also features a navigation system and mobile phone mounted to the windshield.
Fortunately, police did not catch the driver using his office equipment while driving – an offence which would likely have seen him arrested.
It is vitally important that mobile workers know where to draw the line – and using mobile phones and computers while driving is going too far.
By doing so, they not only increase the risks of causing an accident, leading to serious injury or death to themselves or other people.
Mobile devices give employees and business leaders great agility and flexibility – but they are not immortal and are certainly no less likely to cause accidents.
So it is crucial that they use mobile technology sensibly and only at appropriate times, when it is completely safe to do so.
