Small businesses based in serviced offices may be resistant to moving their business online, but going digital does not mean compromising the ethics of the company, Knowthenet.org.uk has said.
Having an online presence can boost visibility and customer support, as well as brand awareness, but moving these things online does not mean the whole business has to move to the internet, site director Phil Kingsland said.
He added: “Not every business will need to move every aspect of their business online, but for many it can play a key role. Operational tweaks can also enhance online revenue; for example, using an ecommerce platform that supports ‘recommendations’ could encourage up-selling to your customers.”
On the whole small businesses are using the net to their advantage, as figures from Knowthenet show that they were generating in excess of £36 billion a year.
However, research by the Centre for Economic and Business Research showed that many small businesses were still resistant to creating a website as they did not think it would be useful for them.
