One in four employees are considering “pulling a sickie” next year to watch the London Olympic Games, according to new research.

The study from Badenoch & Clark revealed that younger workers, aged between 16 and 34, were even more likely to take a sick day to catch some of their favourite events.

Of that demographic, 28.4 per cent said they would seriously consider feigning an illness.

Others however are looking to take annual leave instead. 14.9 per cent of the respondents interviewed for the survey said they were happy to take time off.

The study also found that many employers had yet to formulate a policy of leave during the games.

Nicola Linkleter, managing director at Badenoch & Clark, said: “There will be 8.8 million London 2012 tickets available and the ticket ballot has already demonstrated the huge appetite in Britain to attend.

“Corporate Britain needs to ensure that it can continue to run its organisations during London 2012 and employees need to know what is expected.”

Badenoch & Clark is a recruitment agency that works with clients from medium-sized enterprises and major multinational organisations.
