It seems that the stereotypical techie – poked fun at on the popular Channel 4 TV show The IT Crowd – could soon be a thing of the past.
According to recruitment specialist CWJobs.co.uk, even the most bafflingly technical office spaces are starting to loosen up as IT professionals work on their soft skills.
Richard Nott, the recruitment website’s director, said that increased flexibility in the way that people work was partly the reason for the improving interpersonal skills of IT professionals.
Mr Nott said that soft skills were a core aspect of modern working and good communication was a central pillar.
“Agile methodology requires people with softer skills, because it’s all about the IT part of the business communicating with the commercial part of the business to deliver the projects that the actual business requires,” Mr Nott concluded.
The seismic shift has also no doubt been helped along by the ascent of social networking, a computer-based communications phenomenon.
