People who are stressed in the workplace perpetuate their own worries, according to stress expert Terri Bodell.
The stress doctor has said that stress can be a “self-fulfilling prophecy” as workers can get caught in a cycle of negativity.
She added: “If you’re worried at work that you’re going to be at risk and made redundant, you’ve got all that stress going on in your head and you are less likely to be doing your job to the best of your ability.”
Silly mistakes made when employees do not have their mind on the job can put them in greater danger of redundancy, Ms Bodell commented, adding the people should think pro-actively about the possibility of redundancy, rather than focusing on the negative aspects.
A recent survey by the Chartered Management Institute showed that 39 per cent of workers felt their boss’ behaviour contributed to increased stress levels.
