Mobile working has clear financial benefits for employers and workers, and can offer substantial customer service benefits, it has been claimed.
The Telework Association, which promotes flexible working, has said that employees tend to be more productive at home, instead of in a shared office, and therefore, they are more cost-effective for the company.
Peter Thomson, director of research at the organisation, said: “A lot of businesses now are running almost 24/7 extended hours for their customers, so you need your employees to be more flexible and able to get the service to customers at a time the customer wants to be served, not just at a convenient time for the employee to happen to be working.”
His comments were made as transport secretary Philip Hammond said the government would be working with businesses in the capital to facilitate flexible working during the London 2012 Olympic Games, in an effort to reduce congestion on the roads and on public transport.
