Younger people in the workplace need more support and nurturing from those higher up, but many are scared to ask for it, it has been claimed.
Right Corecare said that employers in serviced offices need to be aware of this reluctance to ask for help as they do not want to be seen to be struggling.
Kevin Friery, clinical director for the organisation, said: “They are starting to learn the resources and skills that you need to be an employee, but they haven’t got it yet. They are still at the beginning of their experience of being an employee. They need more support at that time.
Despite this, younger workers are the least likely to ask for help, he added.
It has been suggested that the reason behind this is because young employers want to be seen as confident, competent and able, as they see that this is the best way to progress their careers.
Recent figures from the Gfk NOP International Employee Engagement Survey showed that 40 per cent of employees aged between 18 and 29 frequently experience stress at work.
