Milton Keynes is playing a key role in supporting the UK’s economic recovery, it has been claimed.
A new report from information company Experian has identified the new town as one of the top places to live and work in the UK.
The Buckinghamshire centre – which has a population of around 200,000 – is the number one property hotspot in the UK outside of London.
For office space growth, Milton Keynes was ranked fifth in the UK.
Only in the likes of London, Leeds and Edinburgh is more prime commercial property coming online, Experian said.
Councillor David Hopkins, Cabinet member responsible for the local economy, told the Citizen that it was “very pleasing” to see the town maintain its impressive growth momentum.
“Our economic strength and success, willingness to learn, change, take chances and our die-hard, ‘can do’ legend is almost becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy,” he stated.
“Now our shops and offices have been shown to be up there with the very best in the country. What next for us? I would say the sky’s the limit.”
Milton Keynes is on the way up
Bruno Rost, a spokesperson for Experian, said Milton Keynes is one of the UK’s top ‘growth boroughs’ and has “great prospects for the future”.
“Leading retail brands have gravitated to the town where there are good opportunities for investment in both retail and business,” he stated.
Mr Rost noted that Milton Keynes performs will because it has a large working population with the skills and knowledge-base to support “a broad and prosperous spread of businesses”.
“This all adds up to continued employment growth and a strong economy for Milton Keynes in the coming years,” he stated.
