The widespread adoption of flexible working practices could dramatically improve gender equality in the workplace.
According to Women in Technology, the coalition government’s plan for an early consultation on flexible working practices is a step in the right direction and could ensure more women make it into male-dominated sectors.
The organisation claims that mobile working will mean women no longer have to decide between having a family or a career.
Managing director of Women in Technology Maggie Berry said that mobile working also has the potential to improve workplace diversity.
“With technology making working from home easier than ever before, more flexible working would make a significant difference to the presence of women in IT,” she said.
Ms Berry added that it would “crush the assumption that it’s only women who should have family responsibilities”.
