A huge majority of employers have said they favour the principles of flexible working as well as traditional office space-based methods , according to research published this week.

Thomsons Online Benefits founds that 90 per cent of employers were looking into flexible benefits to offer to staff, in a bid to improve employee engagement.

Flexible benefits can include practical things such as giving the option to work from home, as well as offering vouchers for childcare and mobile phones, and tax-efficient pay benefits.

More than 400 employers were quizzed in the Employee Rewards Watch survey 2011. They were asked about everything from pensions to mobile working, to health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Chris Bruce, managing director at Thomsons Online Benefits, comments: “The coming year promises to be an exciting time of both challenge and change. This report offers insight into the readiness of organisations for that challenge and change.”

Flexible working can be advantageous to employers as it can reduce overheads for office space, as well as presenting an impression of a good life balance, which can lead to better staff morale and productivity.
