Working hard in the office might bring its rewards, but if you do too much of it you might be inviting health problems, according to new research.

A study completed by experts in the UK found that people who do not get away from their desks and out of their office space in London or office space in Milton Keynes may be at a heightened risk of heart attack.

Anyone who works more than 11 hours a day, rather than the normal nine-to-five, is facing a 67 per cent increase in their risk of heart attack, according to the study, completed at University College London.

Experts involved in the study, which was completed over an 11-year period, said that factors such as stress, high blood pressure and depression could all play a part in this increased risk.

A number of experts have suggested that offering flexible working can reduce stress, leading to less sickness and more productivity among employees.
