Companies which offer flexible working options such as home working or mobile working may be in a better position to recruit and retain staff, according to a leading fatherhood organisation.
Adrienne Burgess, head of research at the Fatherhood Institute, said that UK businesses needed to become more aware and more attuned to the personal needs and commitments of their workers, and offer them the chance to work around them.
She added: “Employers are becoming aware of the fact that people have other lives and that to keep the brightest and the best, you need to be flexible.”
Flexible Working said that offering a more adaptable method of working can attract better staff, who appreciate a workplace which recognises an important home/life balance, and reduce the amount of time that people are off sick, as staff will be more motivated to work.
It also means that the company is more customer-focused, as staff can be available at times which suit the consumer.
