London office space and that located further afield must be used intelligently and creatively in order to get the best out of staff, according to experts.

Smart and efficient use of office space can boost productivity, save space and reduce environmental impact, all of which are vital in a post-recession world, says office design expert Cheryl Durst, who is the chief executive officer of the International Interior Design Association.

She is one of the key speakers at the Office Exhibition 2011, which is due to take place in Dubai next month, Zawya reports.

Many offices have been scaling back on design features as they cut costs in the recession, and focusing on staff morale to keep spirits high.

However, Dr Michael Burchell, partner and director of the Great Place to Work Institute UAE, told the news provider: “Facilities that are safe and contribute to a good working environment are an important demonstration of respect. In our visits to best companies around the world we find that leaders at these companies understand that behaviour is a function of a person interacting in their environment.”

A study completed in America recently showed that having flowers in the workplace can boost morale, productivity and staff creativity.
