Workers who are based in office space in London and other parts of the UK may be facing issues over their rights in redundancy and workplace discrimination if government proposals go ahead.
Opposition ministers have raised concerns over the impact of the plans by the coalition government which chancellor George Osborne says will support job creation in the private sector.
He claims this “wholesale review” will remove unnecessary bureaucracy and allow employers to take a more “flexible” approach to their workers in office space and other workplaces around the UK.
However, shadow business secretary John Denham has said he is worried that the proposals would give employees less protection at work.
The minister said: “George Osborne’s only idea for growth is to make it easier to cut pay and pensions, dismiss employees without giving time to plan for the future and make working life more insecure. Successful companies have a workforce that is confident, dedicated and fairly rewarded.”
When the coalition announced cuts in the public sector, ministers said they hoped that job creation in the private sector would help to soften the blow to unemployment.
