People working in office space in London and the rest of the UK should be proactive in the workplace to increase morale, according to the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Workers should think of ways to improve the atmosphere in the office if it has become uninspired, the body said, and one of the best ways to do this was to take a hands-on approach to instilling enthusiasm.

Ruth Spellman, chief executive for the organisation, said: “How can they feed ideas to their manager? What kind of dialogue needs to be happening in a company? Don’t wait to be asked, be proactive in your approach and also develop yourself.”

Recent research from Simplyhealth showed that almost a fifth of UK employees felt their workplace had changed in the past year, and that their employer now cares less about health and wellbeing of employees.

Increasing workloads, failure of employers to manage absence effectively and greater stringency around time off for medical appointments have also been cited as reasons for this dip in morale
