Former Manchester United and England footballer Gary Neville officially unveiled a new carbon negative office in West Yorkshire yesterday.
Neville, 36, has a keen interest in environmental property and famously won approval for his own eco home on the moors between Bury and Bolton.
He joined communities minister Andrew Stunell at the opening of the Old Corn Mill project in Penistone.
The three-storey mill, which was originally built in the 1750s, has been redeveloped to include triple glazing; substantial insulation; low-energy appliances; eco lighting, and under floor heating using a geothermal water source beneath the car park.
Power will come from a combination of solar panels, wind turbines and a water turbine in the river Don which is designed to produce more energy than it uses.
“It’s great to see offices like this being built. It just shows that businesses as well as individuals can do their bit for the environment,” Neville said.
And the Mill has already secured its first two tenants. A solar panel installer and Danish furniture manufacturer are set to move in.
