It’s a good idea to have a variety of ages working together in the same office space as older workers can bring their experience to the workplace, it has been claimed.
According to Paul Green, spokesman for the over-50s group Saga, older workers have life experience as well as experience of the workplace, meaning they can offer a lot to both companies and younger employees.
“Experience is something that you can’t just buy off the shelf. It has to be acquired through time and through living life,” Mr Green said.
He added that older people also bring a number of other benefits to the workplace, including reliability and flexibility, two things which are very attractive to employees in the current economic climate.
Last month, it was reported that the default retirement age will be scrapped, meaning companies can no longer force people to leave work at the age of 65.
