Turning down the heating in office space across the UK by just one degree could save businesses a collective £35 million, according to data from the Carbon Trust.
Figures from the body show that workplaces in the UK currently spend around £450 million a year on heating, however, they could knock up to 15 per cent off this bill by making very small changes.
Other suggested ways to cut back on energy usage include replacing old hearting controls, regularly maintaining heating systems and providing staff with training on using the heating correctly.
“[Instead], insulate yourself against rising costs by making sure your system is serviced and the controls are set correctly.”
Energy company E.ON is also urging small businesses to cut down on their energy bills, suggesting that small measures such as installing an energy monitor and closing windows when the air conditioning is on could save millions of pounds a year.
