BE’s largest ever team turns out for our 15th consecutive year of participation in City of London charity run.

On Tuesday 6th September, we were delighted to field our largest ever team of runners for the 2022 Standard Chartered Great City Race in what was our 15th consecutive year of participating. Our team comprised some BE Offices staff but primarily enthusiastic clients from across all our London business centres, representing our serviced office, coworking and managed workspace brands, BE Offices, Headspace Group and BE.Spoke, with 65 runners taking part.

The popular corporate challenge was postponed for safety reasons when the UK Met Office issued a red warning for the original date of 19th July, with temperatures in London reaching a scorching 40°C, not ideal running conditions! On the rescheduled date the rain held out for us thankfully and participants quite enjoyed the brief light shower to cool them down!

Over 2,000 runners assembled in the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company, just down the road from BE’s Barbican business centre. Due to works taking place in the City of London at this time, the route was amended slightly and, for this year only, was 4K rather than 5K in length, which may have pleased some participants!

The spectacular route took runners past some of the most famous landmarks in the City of London, including St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower 42 and the Bank of England, whilst also passing by our Cheapside and Threadneedle Street buildings.

The official beneficiary for the race is Futuremakers, a global initiative to tackle inequality and promote greater economic inclusion for young people. One third of the entry fee from all Standard Chartered Great City Race participants is donated to the Standard Chartered Foundation, which helps to fund Futuremakers’ education, employability and entrepreneurship programmes around the world. Standard Chartered also matches the funds raised for Futuremakers from the event, doubling the impact of our participation!

Following the race, it was a pleasure to host participants back to our nearby Beech Street centre for post-run fuel. The prosecco, beers and pizza were an enormous hit!

We thrive on involving our community in events such as this race, which not only raise money for a very worthy cause but also allows us to promote the health benefits of taking part. Everyone knows that running is a great way to get into shape, but it also can benefit almost every part of your body and lift your mood. Whether it’s your favourite part of the day or something you have to push yourself through, the top 10 benefits are undeniable…..

          • Improves overall mental health – runners are happy people!
          • Helps to lower blood pressure and cholesterol
          • Strengthens immune system
          • Improves cardiovascular health

We were delighted to once again have been able to participate in this mainstay of our annual events programme and would like to thank everyone who joined our team and helped to support this fantastic event.
