BE Offices sustainability champion, Julie Tucker, has been shortlisted for the BusinessGreen UK Green Business Awards 2023 in the category of Sustainability Leader of the Year.

The awards showcase the very best of the UK’s green economy and this year have been said to have been highly competitive with hundreds of entries and scores of companies, people and projects competing in the various categories.

The Sustainability Leader of the Year aims to recognise the sustainability executives or green entrepreneurs who have made exceptional progress in advancing the green economy over the past 18 months. Open to any executive working to promote and deliver corporate sustainability improvements and drive the development of the green economy, the award aims to celebrate the individuals who are at the heart of efforts to deliver truly sustainable business models and green business innovation. The judges were looking for entrants who have led the delivery of successful corporate sustainability strategy or green business innovations, working closely with colleagues and partners to develop and execute effective environmental initiatives.

Julie’s entry focused not only on the work she does at BE Offices but also the support she gives to various other sustainability initiatives which among other things include being a principal advocate for the Mayor of London’s Business Climate Challenge, after BE Offices very successful participation in the pilot project which resulted in a 28% reduction in emissions at its Southbank building. Her entry also touched on her work to help develop the City of London’s Culture Mile Business Improvement District as co-chair of its Sustainable Environment Steering Group, as well as the support she offers to the Cross River Partnership as a volunteer air quality ambassador, working on their Clean Air Villages and Healthy Streets Everyday initiatives.

Numerous testimonials from some of the external organisations Julie supports made up the supporting documentation for her entry.

My company, Emico, became client of BE Offices last year and subsequently I was introduced to Julie. After meeting Julie, it became clear that she was not only incredibly knowledgeable but also very passionate about sustainability, going above and beyond what would be required of her within her role and passing her enthusiasm on to those around her. Julie quickly turned her sights to helping Emico achieve our sustainability goals, taking significant time and effort to ensure that I received the necessary data to report Emico’s progress towards net-zero. Julie was also instrumental in getting our volunteering initiative off the ground, connecting me with a certified beach cleaner who organised an event in celebration of World Rivers Day, which Emico attended alongside Julie and her team.

Julie has introduced me to a plethora of people within the sustainability sphere including multiple people whose focus is on improving sustainability in the City of London, where my company is based. I can think of no-one more deserving of this award than Julie.” – Sustainability Lead, Emico.

“Julie has been one of our greatest advocates, working with the Greater London Authority on a pioneering initiative to address climate change in London. She has offered her time, expertise and dedication to the Business Climate Challenge and has had a great impact- not only through working with BE Offices sites – but by being an ambassador for the programme and helping us to reach others. Julie’s determination, joy and passion for this work are a breath of fresh air and have kept our team motivated and helped us to support even more London businesses.”  – Mayor of London’s Office, Greater London Authority.

“When Julie is passionate about something she gives 1000% of herself.” – Founder, Treeapp.

“It has been so refreshing working with Julie, her passion for driving sustainability within the organisations’ that she works across, and the roles she upholds that help to deliver social value within local communities whilst tackling the wider climate crisis, demonstrate true leadership and should be an inspiration to us all on how we can embed the climate agenda into our workstreams – and personal projects.” – Camden Climate Alliance Lead, Camden Council.

Julie has been a champion of the Business Climate Challenge from the get-go. She has successfully taken on the Mayor of London’s challenge to reduce BE Office’s energy consumption at their Borough building by 28% – driving forwards the green agenda for London’s buildings, and engaging colleagues in energy saving measures. Beyond BE Offices, Julie has been a vital ambassador of the challenge and supported its growth in 2023. This has enabled the Business Climate Challenge to engage even more businesses across London in energy savings and reducing carbon emissions from buildings.” – Sustainability Lead, Better Bankside BID
