Employers who open up the option of mobile working only to parents and carers are missing out on a raft of opportunities, according to a mobile working body.
Many workplaces only offer flexible working opportunities for a limited number on their staff, but the Teleworking Association suggested that “enlightened organisations” should recognise the potential benefits of home working for all workers in London office space.
Development director Shirley Borrett said: “We have this notion that carers and parents deserve flexible working – but what about all those people that don’t have children? They still deserve a life. A lot of enlightened organisations recognise the benefits to everybody and offer flexible working to everybody.”
Benefits of flexible working include a more motivated workforce and a lower carbon footprint.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said this week that the government should extend the option of flexible working to all employees at the earliest opportunity.
