Energy companies have been described as being “very difficult and unpleasant” places of work for employees by a business growth organisation.

The Richard Denny Group has suggested that the culture of employment within these energy companies is unhealthy.

Richard Denny, a business growth specialist and chairman of the Richard Denny Group, said: “There are big difficulties in the energy sector – massive change and very weak, unstructured management, which is resulting in many firms becoming ‘pariah employers’.”

He added that in many cases their staff often had no idea of what was going at work as changes in the workplace were not being adequately communicated down through the business.

Mr Denny said: “Generally there is very big dissatisfaction with most of the energy companies. It is pretty horrendous there.”

His comments were made in the days before British Gas was fined £2.5 million by Ofgem for failing to properly deal with customer complaints.

The Richard Denny Group is a business growth organisation that offers customised business training, consultancy and related services.
