People must alter their ideas of what they want from buildings, including those housing office space in Milton Keynes, in order to make them more sustainable, it has been claimed.
David Clark, sustainability partner at consulting engineers firm Cundalls, said that companies and individuals needed to amend the expectations they had for buildings so they could fit around modern life.
He commented: “We put too much light into buildings. It doesn’t matter how efficient your lighting is, nothing is more efficient than something that’s switched off. We don’t need as much light now – we all work on computers and we don’t need the level of light that we traditionally had in buildings.”
Mr Clark added that although a lot of companies were focusing on renewable energy, it was not enough.
