A council has introduced hot desks as part of an initiative to invest in local business start ups.

Hot desking is at the centre of this new development from Cork County Council, which is looking to help local towns and villages develop the means needed to set up supportive enterprise centres, reported

The council is investing cash from a pot of £1.5 million in setting up hot desks that will help burgeoning businesses get their feet off the ground.

Ger Power, head of finance and economic development at the council, told the online news provider: “We look forward to receiving applications from local communities who wish to develop an ‘e-centre facility for businesses in their locality.”

The hot desks will give new businesses access to shared facilities and broadband direct-dial telephone numbers, making it even easier for aspiring businesses to start up without having to worry about the spiralling cost of doing so.

Hot desking could be one of the many ways that businesses introduce flexible working into the office, which is something the CIPD is trying to get the government to implement universally throughout the UK.
