Staff in shared and serviced offices may suddenly find themselves sat next to their local MP as politicians across the country get involved in a scheme called Business Buddy.
Set up by the Forum of Private Business (FPB) and part of the Get Britain Trading Campaign, MPs are being encouraged to spend a day working in a small business in order to get
hands-on experience of the day to day challenges they face.
Considering the legislation which MPs pass on a regular basis has a direct effect on businesses and their ability to grow in a struggling economy it is important they understand the impact their decisions can make.
The plan is for around 100 MPs, MSPs and Members of the Welsh Assembly to take part in the scheme with Oliver Letwin having already undertaken his work experience with Bridport Gourmet Pies.
Phil McCabe, senior policy advisor at the FPB, told Growing Business: “We want politicians to build lasting relationships with their constituent business owners and, when they are passing laws or introducing enterprise policies, place small firms at the forefront of their thinking.”
